Go Green, Big Red!
Go Green, Big Red!

Denison University and all members of the Denison community are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the college through the use of sustainable practices, and through education and research, advancing society’s knowledge and commitment to improving everyday habits.

It’s not of question of how to recycle, but rather will you recycle? Recycling bins are located throughout campus in all of our academic buildings and residence halls. Recycling bins are also conveniently located outside along walkways. Bins are labeled WET or DRY to denote the type of material they can accept. For more information on items you can recycle, please visit Recycling & Waste Reduction.

Measure your Environmental Footprint – Denison is working towards reducing its carbon footprint with the goal of becoming carbon neutral.  As a member of the Denison community you are an important part of the process both in being an active participant in our campus efforts and by reducing your own footprint:

Sustainability for Students

A university is defined by the students, and the students define the values of a university.

At Denison, there is a plethora of different ways undergraduates can become involved in creating an environmentally conscious community, ranging from participation in student organizations, to sustainable living at the Homestead, to individual initiatives to live more sustainably. Furthermore, the Sustainability Office aims to provide resources and support for new ideas and recommendations from the student body.

The information presented below aims to teach students to learn how to be more involved in sustainability at Denison, and how to live an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

For more on student-led sustainability efforts, please visit Student Initiatives.

Sustainability for Faculty & Staff

As part of the Denison community, faculty and staff can help to foster a sustainable community by leading through example. Already, numerous offices, departments, and campus groups have worked to reduce their carbon footprint and use of resources, but we can continue to improve.

In past semesters, many staff members participated in Walk to Work Wednesdays, and reduced their printing by providing assignments online and corresponding electronically. Denison is committed to being a more sustainable campus; please help us to reduce our use of both natural resources and financial resources.

Sustainability for Alumni & Friends

Denison offers a rich and deep education in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and fine arts and extraordinary campus leadership opportunities aimed at preparing graduates who will make a difference in their communities, their country, and the world. A pioneer in the creation of an interdisciplinary curriculum in Environmental Studies, Denison is fully committed to promoting individual and institutional environmental sustainability.

The college is a signatory to both the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment and the International Talloires Declaration for a Sustainable Future.
