Denison’s Studio Art program respects art traditions of the past but has a progressive eye to the future. The program emphasizes art-making as a means to thinking from multiple perspectives not only about oneself, but also about one’s relationship with the world of ideas.
Rising Juniors with a GPA of at least 3.4, are eligible for the prestigious McGaw Scholarship in the Fine Arts. This is a competitive scholarship ($5,000 for Junior year and $5,000 towards Senior year) amongst practicing art students in the Fine Arts division - Art, Cinema, Dance, Music and Theatre.
There are two rounds for this scholarship. The first round is within our Department and the second round is amongst other eligible Fine Art students. From the first round, two McGaw candidates are selected by the Department and nominated to move on to the second round with the other Fine Art students. The second round involves putting up a show of work for an exhibition. There are only two winners selected from the entire pool of Fine Art nominations.
