Job Listing: Assistant Professor

The Department of Religion invites applicants for an entry level tenure-track position in Biblical Studies, beginning August 1, 2014.

Candidates who will contribute to the diversity of the department’s curriculum and faculty are especially encouraged to apply.

Teaching responsibilities are five courses per year, including a core course required for majors. The candidate must be prepared to teach wide-ranging thematic courses that deal with Biblical Studies within historical and comparative contexts, and that address varied interpretive communities and perspectives. Areas of additional teaching could include courses on Jewish history, Christian history, and the Bible in global contexts. Courses should engage undergraduates within the context of a liberal-arts education.

Religion faculty members may contribute to Denison’s interdisciplinary programs (Black Studies, East Asian Studies, Queer Studies, Women’s Studies, and International Studies).

Ph.D must be in hand by August 2014, and undergraduate teaching experience is preferred. Evidence of a scholarly agenda is expected. Depending on the qualifications of the applicant rank may be negotiable. We will begin reading applications on September 15, 2013, in preparation for interviewing selected candidates at the November 2013 AAR/SBL meeting in Baltimore.
