This is a direct enrollment program that requires independence, resilience, and patience on the part of the student. While multiple housing options are offered, DU students are required to participate in a homestay to facilitate immersion.

What's cool about this program?
35,000 student comprehensive university located in Florianópolis, the “cultural capital” of southern Brazil and a city located partly on the island of Santa Catarina and partly on the mainland. Participants are required to take an intensive language and culture course at the start of the semester, and may continue their language study with an additional 3 cr. semester language course. English-taught electives ranging from 1 to 3 credits focus on Brazilian culture, economics, socioeconomic problems and natural resource management issues. Several housing options are available, however students will have the greatest level of cultural immersion and opportunity to learn Portuguese in a homestay.
