The Department of History seeks to develop in its students an appreciation for the richness, diversity and complexities of human history. In the course of their studies, students are exposed to a wide range of different historical periods and geographic regions, including courses on the history of America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Phi Alpha Theta is the International Honor Society in History. The society is composed of chapters at accredited universities and colleges. Phi Alpha Theta encourages the development of a community of historians by hosting social and academic events for students and professors. A number of students from the department join this international history honorary society each year.
One has to have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, four history courses, and a 3.1 GPA in the history major to be eligible to be a member of Phi Alpha Theta at Denison.
