Associate Professor Brian Hortz has been recognized for his timely and fortuitous response to an off-campus accident.

Laurel Kennedy, vice president for student development, and Daniel Hect, director of campus safety, recently recognized Brian Hortz, associate professor of health, exercise and sport studies, for his timely and fortuitous response to an off-campus accident involving Denison students in the spring of 2016.

Nan Carney-DeBord, vice president of athletics, said, “Brian was truly heroic that night. As he was driving to campus for the senior week 'night walks,' he came upon the accident and stopped. Using his first aid and athletic training skills, he saved one student's life and helped two other students and a passenger in the car. We, in the Athletics and HESS division saw theory put to practice — first-hand — but it was the courage that Brian displayed that was incredible. We love our students and really, Brian demonstrated unconditional love that evening.”
