Jessen Havill honored as Robert C. Good Fellow
Under the program, which is named for Denison University’s 16th president, a tenured faculty member is released from all normal teaching and advising responsibilities for one semester, in order to provide opportunities to advance major scholarly or other creative projects. The awards are competitive, and their number is limited.
During that semester, Havill will finish writing a new textbook that uses modeling and simulation to introduce computer science to beginners. Unlike other introductory computer science books that put programming first, Havill's book will motivate computational problem solving and programming with compelling natural and social scientific problems. The book is under contract from CRC Press/Chapman & Hall, and is expected to be published in the spring of 2015.
