Communication Students Participate in Community Service Project
On Tuesday December 3rd, members of the Communication honorary society, Lambda Pi Eta (LPE), and participants in Dr. Laura Russell’s “Communicating Kindness” course, joined together for a night of service and fun at Behavioral Healthcare Partners of Central Ohio’s women’s mental health facility in Newark, Ohio.
Behavioral Healthcare Partners is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides integrated mental health and addiction treatment services. Most of the patients at the women’s mental health facility will never be well enough to live independently and many do not have frequent visitors. So in an effort to demonstrate kindness and spread holiday cheer, the students helped residents decorate their doors, hung decorations, set up a Christmas tree, baked cookies, and played bingo with the residents.
The event represents just one of the ways in which LPE and the Denison Communication Department integrate learning and service both in and out of the classroom.
