At Denison, research is a powerful tool to learn about the world and yourself. Whether you tackle a project in astronomy or art, physics or philosophy, every student, in every discipline, has the opportunity to explore, encounter, examine, discover, demonstrate, and investigate. As part of our research programs, Denison offers a unique research residency program in Gilpatrick House, which is open to students involved in research as Summer Scholars, Senior Research Scholars, or other intensive research programs.

Oak Ridge Science Semester

The Oak Ridge Science Semester enables students to join ongoing investigations at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee in research areas as diverse as astrophysics, cell biology, DNA sequencing, genetic mutagenesis, parallel computing, robotics, toxicology, and much more.

Off-Campus Study

Off-campus study opportunities act as a catalyst in a Denison education. They are situated learning that amplifies campus-based classroom learning by extending it into socio-cultural contexts that help foster integration of the habits of consideration, engagement, and intentionality. This, in turn, engenders the practice of informed and empathetic judgment that is the hallmark of a liberally educated person.

Writing Center

The Writing Center works with students as they learn and use conventions of Standard English, including grammar, mechanics and citation styles. We also help students to make sense of an assignment, develop ideas, learn an effective writing process, organize and improve writing and identify the weakest elements so that students can focus during revision.

Writing Program

Writing plays a central role in Denison’s liberal arts education. It is not a separate field of study but an integral part of all fields of study. The Denison Writing Program develops writers who view writing as critical thinking and a lifelong endeavor.
