Alums of The Denison Singers are gathering in Granville during the weekend of June 20-23 to celebrate the group’s 63rd birthday. Rehearsals and socializing will culminate with a Reunion Concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, in Swasey Chapel on the Denison campus.

Some 60 Singers from as far away as New Hampshire to California and Florida to Idaho will perform a program that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Swasey Chapel and the renovation of the Swasey organ, which is also one century old in 2024.

The program will include a repertory ranging from the 16th century to 2024, with new works composed by two group members, Clifford Davis ’72 and R. Michael Daughtery ’71. The newly refurbished Swasey organ will be heard both as a solo and supporting instrument played by Donald Armitage, cantor emeritus of Augsburg Lutheran Church and retired Wake Forest University organist in Winston-Salem, N.C., an honorary Denison Singer and the group’s host for several reunions in North Carolina.

This is the 596th concert presented by the Denison Singers since the group’s founding in 1961 by Distinguished Professor of Fine Arts Emeritus William Osborne. Dr. Osborne was an active faculty member at the university from 1961 until his retirement in 2003 and has continued to direct the Denison Singers in reunion concerts in Granville and elsewhere for the last two decades.

The concert is free and open to the public, and all alums, family, friends, faculty, staff, and community members are cordially invited and encouraged to join this celebration of music, tradition, and camaraderie.
